Indian Society
UPSC Indian Society notes — diversity, women, population, urbanisation, globalisation, communalism, regionalism and secularism, for GS Paper I.
Indian Society is a short syllabus with long answers. It is mostly a Mains subject: questions are analytical (“Discuss”, “Critically examine”) and reward data, committee findings and constitutional anchors over opinions.
What UPSC asks
- Mains GS I: salient features of Indian society and its diversity; role of women and women’s organisations; population and associated issues; poverty and developmental issues; urbanisation; effects of globalisation; social empowerment; communalism, regionalism and secularism.
- Prelims: occasional questions on demography, social indicators and welfare schemes, usually through current affairs.
